Few quotes from the Slow Fashion Conversation!
Rosie:
Support local tradition and dress for slow fashion movement…..
Paula:
…Local communities and in Brazil, diverse traditions from the South and the North. We need to keep it alive. This globalized world is killing it. Slow fashion: support small business, local tailors…
Rosie:
Shopping local and supporting local artisans. Lower carbon footprint…one of the way I do it with my brand. Walk with my manufactures with my economy….
10 years ago turn to the West manufactures… American made products and good selling point.
Mahenaz:
Balance again.
Q: More about you?
Rosie:
More bi-racial American… use to be a minority and now majority….
In New York, land acknowledgement [resource]. native-land.ca …support local indigenous people
Interested in the environment. Mom an activist, inspired me. Plant that seed in me. Went to fashion school, nothing about sustainability…. Did my own research, read a lot. Find out everything I could. Bought one way trip to Europe. Stumble upon trade show… sustainable. My brand Rosina Mae from beach to the city… Ethical Fashion Show Berlin.
Tell more people about sweat shops.
Paula:
Have two options: Do nothing or try to change things. Tried to work with luxury market, but instead UN….Fashion and Consumption now working in. From Latin American, [people have to] choose between food and clothes. Delicate issue to me. Conscious consumption, include not excluding people.
Reading a lot.
SAH:
My mom is Jiporee…. Their society Matriarchal… our is Patriarchal society. Mother is seen as the head of the family, the bread winners, the farmers. Interesting the comparison.
Rouba:
Appropriations in. Small projects with indigenous people with embroidery or tailoring. Not given the right credit. Give their culture, give them weaving and embroidery. Work with India in the North. Collection to respect the culture.
Taruna:
Uplift economy: Upgrade their skills, heritage point of view…weavers feel pain of fast fashion.
Elevate their life, improve basic living conditions. Whole purpose inspiring part-skill should not get lost. Sustainability is all about working with the local communities at their pace. Not have mass production. Few things working on in this process.
Geared up and Rouba work with the luxury fashion. Look at environment fashion. Quite inspired, work on design line. Inspired by honey bees.
Let’s build up some structure… honey comb. Create sample, weaving with gold fibers kind of weaving that has come out. Some one overseas happy to be working with…. The whole designer and with different origin and culture looking forward to. Thank you so much. Anyone who is interested with the communities in India [connect with me]
Cynthia:
Important to connect with our roots.
Rosie:
Fashion is political. Activist through our fashion. Walk down the streets and see what’s available. Delve into handicrafts.
Paula:
Everything is political. Go voting better…see who makes your clothes. Think about your environment. We are all nature.
Rouba:
Fashion can do miracles. Great tool to raise awareness. Be responsible and sustainability. Raise awareness about indigenous cultures. Become better.
